Ketamine Infusion Therapy
If you’re suffering from a treatment-resistant mental health condition, ketamine offers new hope. Highly effective and fast-acting, our ketamine therapy treatment plans have helped many former sufferers achieve optimal wellness results – and they can do the same for you.
Ketamine, Your Mental Health Ally
Ketamine is a medication that blocks a specific neurotransmitter receptor in the nervous system. First used as a general anesthetic, it was quickly discovered to have remarkable antidepressant effects.
Now believed to be not only an alternative method of mental health treatment but a more effective one, sufferers have been able to regain control of their lives. As part of a holistic treatment program, long-lasting wellness is not only possible, but likely.
How It Works
Some researchers believe prolonged exposure to stress and anxiety causes specific neurons to die off, resulting in depression and mood challenges. That's where ketamine can help.
By activating neurotransmitter receptors and pathways, it's believed ketamine triggers and supports the growth of new neurological connections, connections that relieve depressive symptoms.
While the exact ways ketamine relieves mood and other mental health challenges are still unknown, we do know the vast majority of patients have achieved antidepressant effects and overall wellness through ketamine infusions.
Why Infusions?
Infusions help immediately slow down the pain-sensing nerves that send messages to your brain. Many experience almost instantaneous feelings of relief and relaxation.
Because safety is a priority here at Reverie Mind, infusions have the added benefit of being highly controlled. They must be completed at one of our centers, which means we can provide personalized attention, care, and adjustments to help ensure a positive, soothing experience.
What to Expect
- Initial consultation: Some require ketamine for PTSD, some are looking to ketamine for anxiety relief, while others may be using it to work through trauma. That's why an initial consultation is so important; it's a chance to discuss the challenges you're facing and the treatments you've tried before.
- Customized treatment plan: After learning more about you, we’ll customize a ketamine program that addresses your specific needs.
- Before your first infusion:
- Remember to bring your ID and have transportation already arranged; do not drive immediately after your infusion!
- Avoid consuming solid food at least six hours before treatment, and avoid liquids four hours before treatment.
- Typically, you’ll be able to take your usual morning medications. If you take pain-controlling narcotics, we’ll discuss when to stop those before treatment.
- Be sure to avoid alcohol and illicit drugs before your infusion.
- During treatment:
- The length and dose of your infusion will depend on your diagnosis and treatment plan.
- Wear comfortable clothing; while the infusion won’t put you to sleep, you may feel relaxed enough to do so.
- A Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner will closely monitor your vitals.
- Food is not permitted during infusions.
- In our therapy rooms, we play calming music or sounds through speakers and provide pillows and blankets. You are welcome to bring your own pillows and blankets as well.
- We recommend turning off or silencing your cell phone to fully immerse yourself in your treatment.
- After treatment:
- Have a friend or family member drive you home.
- Don’t operate heavy machinery (like a vehicle) for 24 hours.
- Prescribed medication can be resumed after the effects of the infusion have worn off.
- You may experience mild side effects, like fatigue, which typically resolve shortly after the completion of your infusion. In the unlikely event you experience adverse side effects, immediately seek medical attention.
- Update your care team on how you’re feeling with help from INFORMED, a HIPAA-compliant communication tool.
